“A Strange Night Out in Lisbon”

Bicaense exists as a space where history is not preserved behind glass, but actively used.
Once a cultural landmark rooted in local tradition, it now evolves into a layered environment where dining, performance, and atmosphere merge into a single experience. Under the direction of TenClub Amsterdam, the space is treated as a living composition rather than a fixed restaurant.
Bicaense is not defined by what it serves, but by what happens within it. Food, gesture, sound, and performance become part of the same narrative structure. Nothing is isolated. Everything is in relation.
The space operates as a stage, but without a clear separation between audience and performance. Moments emerge without announcement. Attention shifts continuously. The experience is built on anticipation rather than predictability.
At its core, Bicaense explores curiosity as a design principle. Not as decoration, but as structure. A place where dining becomes a framework for interaction, and where the familiar format of a restaurant is deliberately destabilised.
It is a space shaped by contradiction. Historical yet temporary. Intimate yet performative. Controlled, but never fully contained.
Bicaense becomes part of Private Mansions as an environment where context, behaviour, and atmosphere define the design as much as the physical space itself.
